Question: How many people are actually taking a real interest in helping tackle drink spiking and date rape?

By 2 Love My Lips 27 September 2011 at 17:55

Answer: Not enough!

It’s only too simple to shy away from this horrific and ever so rising problem. The reality is that it needs to be addressed and more people need to be made aware and take responsible for their actions.

Somebody once said date rape is ‘100% avoidable’ fact of the matter is, it’s not. What gives one human the right to drug and take advantage of another? Unlike the UK, South Africa seem to have a laid back nonchalant approach towards drink-spiking, so much so, that there are actually no laws in place against drink-spiking or drug-rape.

South Africa are one of the highest countries  for drink-spiking and we are working with our offices over there to raise awareness and help combat this issue. We are distributing drink spike detector kits that will help people feel that little bit safer when they are out and about on the social scene.

Drink-spiking has left people paralysed, pregnant, suicidal, injured, robbed, scarred (mentally and physically) and many many more – either way, put people’s health at serious risk. It therefore accounts for a number of crimes.

There seems to be the old cynical view that alot of drink-spiking cases are just people getting far too drunk and not being able to handle their drink. We at 2 Love My lips are not about to sugar-coat the situation and state that this is completely untrue but stand by the fact that drink spiking and drug rape does happen, despite whether alcohol has been consumed or not.

We are working closely working with the Liverpool Royal  hospital, that state they get between 100-200 cases of suspected drink-spiking a week. Statistics show one in four women have had their drink spiked. We as a nation need to step up. Image if it was a family member, daughter, mother, sister? Join our stay safe campaign and help a worthy cause.
